Hi Everyone! I was kind of surprised that my last blog post was a Christmas one... I could have sworn I had done another one since then! Nope...... I haven't! So, lots to catch you up on : ) I have 8 days left here on Bella Bella. I can't believe it! Also, that means I have 11 days until Jamaica!! Woo Hoo!!
I hope you all had a wonderful New Year's Eve! I was stuck working nights on the 31 and 1, could be worse though! We got to see some fireworks out on the streets of Bella Bella. Although I was slightly concerned we may get a firework related injury as none of them were set off in a controlled manor lol - someone's gonna lose an eye! Very pretty though!
Work has been good, busy week last week getting over 70 hours in 7 days. It's quite different work than I'm used too. Both of my day shifts I didn't see an ER patient until 4 in the afternoon! I think the clinic is pretty functional here, as we've discharged patients with a message from the doc saying 'call the clinic in the am', so I bet there are more things we would see in ER if the clinic wasn't so functional. Everything is in one building too. Clinic, ER, LTC, pharmacy, acute care beds etc. One stop shop!
I've gotten through the busy work week to be greeted by a snow storm! When everywhere else in Canada was getting a snow storm, so was Bella Bella. There were no flights in or out of Bella Bella for 3 days almost. Hopefully this doesn't happen again next week when I need to fly out, it's a tight time crunch for me to get to Jamaica ; ). Lots of snow fell, I will post pictures below, and it made the already crazy drive to the lodge even crazier. But we managed. I also found out that the Chef for the lodge was coming to cook/prep meals for the people staying at the lodge (ME! woo!!). So I've been prettttttttttttttttttttty spoiled here. It's crazy.... it doesn't feel like working. Just vacationing. Between prepping freezer meals (like mac and cheese, soups etc) he's made lunch and supper everyday since he got here on Sunday! SO spoiled! I've been able to learn a few things too and help him out occasionally. We've had homemade soup at lunch time with wraps or grilled cheese. Supper's have been sesame pork/beef on rice, roast beef and potatoes, and my personal fave - steak and mushrooms, corn and brussel sprouts, and potatoes. Perfectly cooked steak... .sooooo good! So spoiled!!! I'm loving this experience!
Yesterday, Ruth and I took the Seabus over to Shearwater, a good 20 minute trek from Bella Bella. But the seabus is free from Mon-Thurs and runs every hour from morning to night (like even in the total darkness - scary!). It turned out to be an absolutely beautiful warm day, and we wandered the small community (only about 75 residents - so I've been told), hoping to check out the 3-4 shops, but they were all closed except for the restaurant and the grocery store. We had lunch at the restaurant there, so good! and a beautiful view out to the waterfront. I had the Halibut fish and chips, had to since I'm out in fishing country! Delicious! I got some stunning shots too, ill post a bunch at the bottom like I usually do!
This morning taking a co worker into work, we got to see a stunning sunrise and got a few shots of those too! I can't wait to blow some of these photos up and display them somewhere in my (eventual) home! Today I HAVE to get going on my Yukon nursing license.... yikes.... I start work there January 31!!! Holy cow, eh?! I can't wait to get to Dawson City!!! Going from a temperature in Jamaica of +28 to 3-4 days later to a -28 in Dawson City... Thank goodness I got a Parka!
So, i got 8 days left here, and 5 more shifts! Can't wait to head home again! Too bad this time I won't be home for long, but I plan on taking some time off after the next contract : )
Hope everyone is well at home! I miss you everyone! Keep in touch and keep me posted on everything : )
See you soon!!
