Hi everyone! Less than 5 weeks and I will be en route home with MOM as my road trip buddy! Yep! My momma's gonna FLY out on the 29th and we are going to head home the morning of Sept 2, and hopefully get home by Thursday that week! Hopefully get some touristy things in and show her some things around where I've been for the past 7 weeks : ). Also, Matt&Jamie will be here this weekend! Although a short quick visit Saturday until Sunday am, they'll be back when they head home from their road trip! I think August will fly by! As excited as I am to go home for a visit, I will certainly miss all the people I've met here. I wish I could pack them all up in my luggage and bring them home!
I haven't toured too far since my Clear Lake post. I had a stretch of 4 nights over the weekend so that's pretty well all I did lately LOL. I got off those nights yesterday morning, napped for a bit and then Cindy and I made our way out on a little road trip! First, we headed to Kola to this animal ranch called "Westwood Ranch Garden Center". It's not far at all, an was pretty well on the way to our main destination of Moosomin, Saskatchewan. At the ranch admission was a whole $6.00! Can't go wrong! and you got to take your time going through and looking at all the animals at your own pace. I took a ton of pictures of all that we saw. There were so many I couldn't pick a favourite. I loved the Zebras, Lemurs, Wallaroos, Pigs, Lambs and when the Peacock showed us his beautiful feathers. They were all great! I did however have a least favourite.... the Ostriches. They were freaky.... and looked like they wanted to peck us as we got closer. Big beady eyes and puffed all their chests out. Needless to say.... we didn't get too close, nor did we stay long LOL. We did see an egg though! A staff member said it was just hatched that day, but that since she's not sitting on it that it most likely won't grow. Apparently, she had laid like 40 eggs this year - so can ya blame her for not sitting on it? LOL. We wandered around and caught the Lemur's losing their minds when the cockatoo and parrot started talking in their cages that are fairly close to the Lemur area. The Lemurs swung over and stuck their heads through the fence and arms trying to catch them. It was pretty cute to see. They are also crazy playful, rolling and fighting each other. They have a lot of energy and can move SUPER quickly. They only weigh 4-5lbs but they look much bigger, no surprise they're so agile and fast.
A little further from the main area, was a barn full of typical farm animals. We saw a couple pigs lounging in some cool straw that with a lot of coaxing finally came up to us. Next to them were a bunch of lambs! They were SO cute! they immediately made of think of "Lamb Chop" that puppet from the kids show I watched when I was little LOL. They were so friendly too, loved being pet and having their photo taken! They were easily one of my favourites! Then there was a bigger area that had a mixture of animals keeping cool, a cow, sheep, pony's and a herding dog sleeping in the pen next to them. He didn't care about us LOL but would jump up and peek at the sheep every now and then! It was really fun, and I saw so much more than I've written. I took a ton of pictures and will post as many as this wifi will allow me!
After the ranch we made our way to Moosomin, Saskatchewan. Where the clocks turned back an hour and we were only 45 minutes away from Virden. We wandered the down town and drove around looking at the houses and neighbourhoods. It's a very nice town, lots of well developed tree lined streets. It helped it was such a beautiful day. I could really get used to the Manitoba summer (although everyone keeps saying it's usually so much better than this summer has been). It was a nice dry heat yesterday. It was super warm, but with a cool breeze and NO HUMIDITY! It can get so humid at home and I hate the humidity. Here, there isn't near as much and it was a perfect day yesterday! I didn't buy anything yesterday, but enjoyed the stores and touring. Moosomin is quite a bit bigger than Virden. We ate at The Red Barn, a really good family restaurant where they had some really nice White Wine Peach Sangria - definitely going to make that sometime! We grabbed a coffee at a little cafe in town that also had homemade oreo cookies (DELICIOUS!) and made our way home : ). We stopped at the Manitoba border and took pictures with the sign. It only took me 7 weeks to do it, but I did it!
I hope everyone at home is doing well! I miss you all! One of my LMH co workers got MARRIED on Saturday and I'm super sad I had to miss the party! BUT I received a few pictures through the night that made my night shift go by a little bit easier! All you guys looked beautiful all dressed up!! And the bride looked stunning and super happy! Congratulations to Sarah and Spencer! I can't wait to see more pictures! Can't wait to get home and catch up with you all : ) and work a bit at LMH! I'm waiting to hear about the Yukon still, and if it doesn't work out, I want to spend a good few weeks at home before my next contract : ). I'm truly LOVING travel nursing. I love being able to explore and travel and check things off my bucket list with the minor detail of working here and there and saving money for when I want to buy a house : ). This experience has made me way more open and adventurous and I can't wait to continue doing so! Cindy leaves soon though : ( so we only have a few more chances for road trips together! Before she goes, we plan on hitting up The Keg for the lobsterfest. She's an east coaster that loves and misses her seafood, and can't believe I've never had lobster. Perfect opportunity to learn from an expert! And, we want to hit Maryfield again for steaks from The Arlington! Lots to do : )
Enjoy the pictures everyone! I will be home soon - although a bittersweet feeling! I have 16 shifts left. 4 day shifts and 12 night shifts (YIKES!). Today I'm heading to a co workers house for a pot luck lunch! Hopefully the sun comes out, it's looking a little grey and overcast! See you all soon! Can't believe how quickly this contract has gone by! Miss you all : ) xoxoxox!
