It sure has been a while since I last blogged, way too long! Not for a lack of trying though... My laptop finally gave me the dreaded "you don't have enough to space to import more photos" message! So I had to move a good 13 000 photos and then my laptop didn't recognize that I got rid of all that onto external hard drives - and then I got stuck as to what to do. My best option was to wait until I got home to access the Apple Store in the mall - and naturally, it took the guy 5 minutes and it was all fixed! Murphy's Law... gets me everytime!
ANYWAYS.... A lot has happened since I last blogged, I was just nicely into my contract i Port Alberni, getting around the island as much as I could with my days off. Best decision of my life was to get my car out with me! One of the most exciting times was when I got to tour my parents around the island at the end of February for a week. And then the much anticipated long-haul drive home from the island! 5000km in 6 days! easy peasy! Maybe if there weren't 3 snow storms to get through - I thought this was April, Mother Nature?!
Work life: Port Alberni has, once again, sucked me back in for another contract! Plan is to head back for May 1 until mid June, come home and head out EAST! Finally! Heading out East has been a goal of mine for at least a year now, and it is finally going to happen - so long as I can get alllll the paperwork and licensing done. Paperwork is always fun...
Some more exciting news??? I'M GONNA BE AN AUNTIE! BEST . NEWS . EVER! I'm so excited for auntie duty! So I'm gonna work my butt off 'til the little munchkins come and then hopefully spend some quality time home for some snuggles!
My week with my parents was LOADED with activities and walking. We walked around 8km a day, whether it be on the Wild Pacific Trail, the beaches of Tofino or the streets of Victoria - we did lots of walking. I think my parents came home for a break haha! We went fishing for Steelhead of the Stamp River (unfortunately no catches, dad got a nibble and then also caught a tree branch - pretty much the most we 'caught' that day), then spent the afternoon around Port Alberni and checking out the HUGE trees in Cathedral Grove (one of my favourite places). I drove them to Ucluelet and Tofino for 2 days, we stayed in a super cute airbnb in Ucluelet and walked a lot of the Wild Pacific Trail - it was beautiful and sunny, big waves and tons of seal sightings. We ate, drank, bowled and played some good ol' Operation back in the cabin. Tofino was a day of beach combing, there are SO many beaches to choose from, all beautiful. Mom was like a kid in a candy shop, picking up shells and filling her pockets, lagging way behind taking photos of the scenery. Needless to say I think she enjoyed herself!
We spent the next day driving to Victoria, eating at Fisherman's Wharf and indulging in a Wildlife Tour. FYI, Eagle Wing Tours is such a fantastic company to go on a whale/wildlife watching tour with!! Their crews are so friendly and smart, and do everything they can to ensure you're comfortable. They may be a smidge more expensive than other companies, but they boast further and longer tours than their competitors. I also mentioned I had been on a tour with them last April and that got me 20% off my ticket! Amazing! Unfortunately, we did not see any whales, but we saw a TON of Harbour Seals, Sea Lions, Eagles galore and even Dall's Porpoise's! The Dall's Porpoise were playing under the boat and under the wake. We could look down and watch them under us, such a cool experience, something I will never forget. We also ate fantastically in Victoria, wandered the blooming cherry blossom city streets (February, people!! Move to BC! haha)
I drove home from Port Alberni with a friend, L, who I had met travel nursing in Manitoba, but she's really only about 3 hours from each others homes in Ontario, such a small world. We drove from Port Alberni, stopped in Kelowna, Nelson, Lethbridge for the nights, then crossed the border and came across the states stopping in Minot ND, and getting into snow storms in Superior, WI and St Ignace, MI. It was a whirlwind! And so fun! I'm looking forward to driving myself back out there in a week or so!
I could go on and on forever and ever... especially since I last blogged a long time ago! But instead I will post my photos - which I am most excited about! It has been my first peek at them since taking them! Hope you all enjoy!
